  • Best-selling model in our range – a safe first choice
  • Bright green dot for dusk and dark work outdoors

Cons

  • In bright sunshine the dot only shows on shaded surfaces (approx. 100 m)

A rechargeable green laser pointer for outdoor work

The G3 Pro is the green laser pointer we would hand to a farmer, a boat owner or a stargazer who asks for one laser that just works. It throws a 532 nm green dot – the wavelength the human eye is most sensitive to – so at dusk the dot on a barn roof or a mooring post is far easier to follow than a red one. It is the best-selling laser in our range – the safe choice if you just want one green laser that does the job.

Like everything we sell, the G3 Pro is class 2, up to 1 mW: the class intended for sale to the public in the UK. Every unit is measured before it is shipped. That honest power level is plenty for pointing and for moving birds on at dusk; it is not a beam for burning or for dazzling, and we would not sell one that was.

Where the G3 Pro earns its keep

  • Bird deterrent: pigeons on a roof, gulls on a boat or terrace, starlings arriving at a roost, geese on a winter field. Sweep the dot over the surface near the birds in low light and they move on. Our guide to scaring birds with a laser explains the method step by step.
  • Stargazing: on a clear night the dot helps you show someone exactly which star or planet you mean. See laser pointers for astronomy.
  • Long distances outdoors: pointing out a tree, a gate or a fault on a roof from the ground. More on that on our long-range laser pointer page.

Battery and charging

The G3 Pro runs on a single rechargeable 18650 Li-ion battery, supplied with its own PowerFox charger: take the battery out and charge it in the charger. Charge it fully before the first use; with normal use a charge lasts at least about a month. If you use the laser every night – on a farm at roosting time, for example – add an extra PowerFox 18650 2-pack to your order so one is always charged, and a second PowerFox charger for the van.

Safe use

Never aim the laser at eyes – of people or animals – or at vehicles, aircraft, boats under way or reflective surfaces such as windows and water. When scaring birds, put the dot on the roof, field or deck beside them, never on the bird. Remove the safety key when you put the laser away and keep it out of reach of children: it is a tool, not a toy, and only sold to customers aged 18 and over. Read the full laser pointer safety rules before your first night out.

Frequently asked questions

Is the G3 Pro good for scaring birds?
Yes, as long as you use it in low light. At dusk and dawn the green dot is visible to approx. 300 m, which is when pigeons, gulls, starlings and geese settle or leave a roost. Sweep the dot across the roof, field or deck near the birds – never at the birds themselves. In full sun it works on shaded surfaces only.
How far does the G3 Pro reach?
Indicatively: 30 m+ indoors, approx. 100 m in daylight on a shaded surface, approx. 300 m at dusk and approx. 1 km in the dark. Light, weather and the surface make a real difference.
What is the difference between the G3 Pro and the G1 Pro?
Only two things differ: the G1 Pro is 16 cm long and has a removable pattern lens, the G3 Pro is 15 cm and has no pattern lens. Otherwise they are the same green 532 nm class 2 Pro laser, with an 18650 battery, charger and two safety keys. The G3 Pro is the model most customers choose.
Is the G3 Pro legal in the UK?
It is a class 2 laser up to 1 mW, the class intended for sale to the public in the UK. Shining any laser at vehicles, aircraft or people is an offence, so always follow our safety rules.
