Compact rechargeable red laser pointer

The R2 Pro squeezes a rechargeable red laser into an 11.2 x 2 x 2 cm aluminium body. It runs on a 16340 Li-ion cell with a charger included, so it is ready for daily use without buying batteries. Think of it as the laser that lives in the laptop bag or the van door pocket: for pointing out a detail on a building, a fault on a machine or a line on a slide.

The R2 Pro is class 2, up to 1 mW – the class intended for sale to the public in the UK – and checked before shipping.

Good for

• Presentations and training: small, quiet, rechargeable. More on presentation lasers.
• Inspections: show the roofer which slate, or the mechanic which hose.
• Short-range outdoor use: approx. 100–150 m at dusk (indicative).
• Everyday carry: at 11.2 cm it slips into a shirt pocket or a pen loop in a laptop bag, so it is with you when you need it.

Battery

The 16340 cell keeps the R2 Pro small. Charge it fully in the supplied PowerFox charger before first use (the battery comes out to charge); with normal use a charge lasts at least about a month. Keep a spare if you use the laser every day. A second PowerFox charger takes 16340 and 18650 batteries, one at a time.

Safety

No key lock on this model, so store it switched off and away from children. Never point it at eyes (people or animals), vehicles, aircraft or reflective surfaces. Not a toy; adults (18+) only. Read laser pointer safety before use.

Choosing between red and green? Red is calm on screens and perfectly visible across a room or a yard; green is several times more visible to the eye and the colour to pick for distance.
