Use & range

Are laser pointers legal in the UK?

Owning a low-power laser pointer is legal. Our lasers are class 2, up to 1 mW – the class intended for sale to the public in the UK. Shining a laser at vehicles or aircraft is an offence. Our safety page explains the laser classes.

Does a laser pointer really scare birds?

Yes, especially at dusk and dawn. A moving green dot on the surface near pigeons, gulls, starlings or geese makes them uneasy and they move on. In bright sun a class 2 dot is weak, so work in low light. Full guide: laser pointer for scaring birds.

How far can a laser pointer go?

With our green lasers the visible dot reaches approx. 100 m in daylight on a shaded surface, approx. 300 m at dusk and approx. 1 km in the dark (indicative). Red and violet reach less far. More on our long-range laser pointer page.

Can I use a laser pointer to point out stars?

Yes. A green laser is ideal for showing someone which star or planet you mean. Check for aircraft first and never point near them. See laser pointer for astronomy.

Which laser colour is most visible?

Green. The eye is most sensitive to green light around 532 nm, so a green dot looks much brighter than red or violet at the same class 2 output.

Are your laser pens rechargeable?

Our Pro lasers are: they come with 1 Li-ion battery and a PowerFox charger, which charges the battery outside the laser. A charge lasts at least about a month with normal use. The slim laser pens run on two AAA batteries.

How long does delivery to the UK take?

Orders placed before 16:00 (Netherlands time) on a working day are shipped the same day from the Netherlands. Delivery to the UK takes 2–5 working days, tracked with PostNL, and the parcel fits through your letterbox. UK delivery is free from £50. Depending on the order value, UK import VAT or a handling fee may be collected on delivery.

Can a laser pointer damage your eyes?

Any laser can harm the eyes if you stare into it. With class 2 the natural blink reflex protects against a brief accidental glance, but you should never look into the beam or point it at people or animals. Read our safety rules.

Which colour is most visible?
Green (532 nm). The human eye is most sensitive to green, so a green laser looks up to 7× brighter than red at the same output. Red (650 nm) is the classic presentation colour; violet (405 nm) makes fluorescent materials glow.
How far does a laser pointer reach?
Indoors in daylight you see the dot of a green 1 mW laser at 30 to 100 metres. In the dark the dot is visible at hundreds of metres and with a green laser you also see the beam itself. Red and violet reach less far.
Can I scare birds or geese with it?
Yes. A green laser is the animal-friendly way to disperse birds: they perceive the moving dot as a threat and fly off, without habituation or harm. Use it at dusk and move the dot slowly across the ground towards the birds.
Is a laser pointer suitable for cats?
Yes, in moderation. Choose a red or green regular pointer, keep sessions short and end the game with a tangible reward so the cat is not frustrated. Never point at the animal's eyes.

Returns & warranty

Can I return my order?
Yes, you have 14 days from delivery. Report it first with the “Withdraw from contract here” button at the bottom of the site; within one working day you get the return instructions. Please do not send anything back before you have them. Return shipping is at your cost. We refund after receipt and inspection.
What warranty do I get?
You get a 1-year warranty on defects under normal use; your statutory rights apply as well. Report a defect first via the returns page with your order number and a short description. Often we simply send a new one. If the product has to come back, we refund the shipping cost once the defect is confirmed.
