X1 Green Laser Pen with Clip

A green laser pen that is always ready

Some lasers live in the cupboard and come out once a month. The X1 is meant to live in your pocket. It is a slim green laser pen with a clip, powered by two ordinary AAA batteries, so there is nothing to charge and nothing to forget. Clip it into a jacket, drop it in the glovebox or hang it by the back door for when the pigeons land on the shed roof again.

The X1 uses the same 532 nm green as our rechargeable models and the same output: class 2, up to 1 mW, the class intended for sale to the public in the UK. Every unit is measured before shipping.

Good jobs for the X1

• Garden and allotment: pigeons on the brassicas or starlings on the roof at dusk – a slow sweep of the dot nearby usually does it. More in our bird-scaring guide.
• Stargazing on the go: point out the Plough or Orion without unpacking anything. See astronomy.
• Everyday pointing: at a talk in a village hall, on a site walk-round or on a guided walk.

Specifications

Batteries

Two powerful AAA batteries are included and fitted in seconds; with normal use they last at least about a month. Because AAA cells are sold everywhere, the X1 is a sensible choice for a holiday cottage, a boat that is used at weekends or a toolbox that sits for weeks. Take the batteries out if you will not use the laser for a long time. If you would rather recharge than replace, look at the compact rechargeable G2 Pro.

Safety

The X1 has no key lock, so treat it like a sharp tool: out of reach of children, switched off in your pocket. Never aim it at people, animals’ eyes, vehicles, aircraft, boats or shiny surfaces such as windows and water. Over 18s only. Read the laser pointer safety guide.

Want projected shapes? The X2 with pattern cap is its companion model. Need rechargeable? See the G3 Pro.
