A red laser pen for close-range work

Not every job needs a green laser that carries across a field. In a workshop, a classroom, a barn or a meeting room a red dot is perfectly visible and a little easier on the eye on screens and whiteboards. The M1 is a 650 nm red laser pen on two AAA batteries: switch it on, point, done.

Output is class 2, up to 1 mW – the class intended for sale to the public in the UK. We measure every unit before it ships.

Where the M1 fits

  • Talks and training: pointing at slides in a village hall, a toolbox talk or a farm open day. See laser pointers for presentations.
  • Workshop and site: show a colleague exactly which bolt, beam or pipe you mean.
  • Short outdoor distances: across the yard or the garden at dusk.

For birds on a roof 200 metres away, or for showing stars, red is the wrong tool – the eye is much more sensitive to green. Choose a green laser pointer for that, and see our long-range laser pointer page for the distances per colour.

Safety

Never aim the M1 at eyes – people’s or animals’ – and never at vehicles, aircraft or reflective surfaces like mirrors and windows. It has no key lock, so keep it out of children’s reach; it is not a toy and is sold to adults (18+) only. See laser pointer safety.

Frequently asked questions

Is a red laser pen good enough outdoors?
For short distances, yes: indicatively approx. 30–50 m in daylight on a shaded surface and approx. 100–150 m at dusk. For birds at distance or for stars, choose a green laser such as the G3 Pro.
What wavelength is the M1?
650 nm – a bright, true red.
Which batteries does the M1 use?
Two powerful AAA batteries, included. With normal use they last at least about a month.
