A slim violet laser pen

The Z1 is the simplest way to own a violet laser. It is a 405 nm violet (purple) laser pen powered by two AAA batteries, with no charger or cells to look after. Many people search for a “blue laser pen” – this is the colour they usually mean: a deep, slightly unreal purple-blue that looks great in a dark room or garden.

It is class 2, up to 1 mW, the class intended for sale to the public in the UK. Every unit is measured before it ships.

Where it works – and where it does not

Our eyes are much less sensitive to violet light than to green, so the Z1’s dot fades quickly in daylight (approx. 10 m on a shaded surface). In the evening and indoors it is clearly visible, up to approx. 200 m in the dark. Use it for evening pointing, short-range work and as a colourful addition to a red and a green laser. For birds or stargazing a green laser pen is far more effective.

Range (indicative)

Indicative only: depends on light, weather and the surface the dot lands on.

Safety

A dim-looking dot is still a laser. Never aim the Z1 at anyone’s eyes – human or animal – or at vehicles, aircraft and reflective surfaces. No key lock, so keep it away from children: it is not a toy, adults (18+) only. See laser pointer safety.

The Z1 is also part of the X1 + M1 + Z1 set with a green and a red pen. Rechargeable violet: V1 Pro.
